Abstract
This Classroom Action Research (CAR) was conducted to improve students’ interest and understanding in the Islamic Cultural History (SKI) subject through the implementation of the storytelling method at MIN 2 Katingan. The research focused on the topic of Islamic historical figures, which is often considered less engaging by students due to the lack of interactive learning approaches. The study was carried out in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data were collected through observation, tests, and student response questionnaires. The results showed a significant improvement in both student engagement and learning outcomes. Students became more enthusiastic during lessons, actively participated in discussions, and demonstrated better retention of historical content. The storytelling method allowed them to emotionally connect with the lives and struggles of Islamic figures, making the material more relatable and memorable. Teachers also noted a more dynamic and responsive classroom environment. This research concludes that storytelling is an effective instructional strategy for enhancing students’ interest and comprehension in the SKI subject, particularly in presenting historical content that requires imagination and empathy.
