Abstract

This classroom action research aims to improve students’ understanding of the Six Pillars of Faith (Rukun Iman) through the application of contextual teaching and learning (CTL) methods. Conducted in Grade V of SD Negeri 03 Buana Bakti, this study consisted of two cycles, each involving the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Initial observations revealed that students had difficulty grasping the meaning and relevance of Rukun Iman in their daily lives. The CTL approach, which links learning material with real-life experiences, was applied through discussions, group projects, and reflective activities. After implementing this method, students showed greater engagement and improved comprehension. They were able to name the six pillars, explain each in their own words, and relate them to real-world examples such as belief in angels, the importance of good deeds, and the meaning of destiny. The results indicated a significant increase in both learning outcomes and motivation. This study concludes that contextual teaching is an effective strategy for enhancing religious understanding among elementary school students, making abstract concepts more relatable and meaningful.
