Abstract

This classroom action research aims to improve first-grade students’ understanding of the Five Pillars of Islam (Rukun Islam) through the use of songs and movement as instructional media. Conducted at MIS Baetul Amanah, Leuwigoong District, Garut Regency, this study was carried out in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The initial condition showed that most students were only able to memorize the Five Pillars without understanding their meanings or sequence. By incorporating learning songs and physical movements representing each pillar, students became more engaged and enthusiastic during the lessons. In the second cycle, students showed significant improvement in remembering and explaining each of the Five Pillars of Islam. The combination of music and movement proved to be effective in addressing the learning styles of early-grade students who learn best through kinesthetic and auditory methods. The results indicate that using songs and movements not only enhances memorization but also deepens students’ conceptual understanding in a joyful and meaningful way. Therefore, this method is recommended for teaching religious content to young learners in Islamic elementary schools.
