Abstract

This classroom action research was conducted to improve the cognitive abilities of early childhood students in recognizing shapes and colors through collage activities in the Art Center at RA Al-Hidayah Buntok. The background of this study is based on observations that many children still have difficulty distinguishing and naming various shapes and colors. The research was carried out in two cycles, with each cycle consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The data were collected through observation sheets, documentation, and field notes. The results showed a significant improvement in children's cognitive development after the implementation of collage activities. Children became more enthusiastic and focused during learning, and they demonstrated better recognition of basic geometric shapes and primary colors. In Cycle I, the percentage of children who met the indicators of cognitive development was 58%, and it increased to 87% in Cycle II. These findings suggest that collage activities in the Art Center can be an effective method to stimulate children’s cognitive abilities, especially in shape and color recognition. The research recommends integrating more hands-on, creative approaches in early childhood learning to make abstract concepts more concrete and engaging for young learners.
