Abstract

The purpose of this study is to improve students' understanding of
the subject matter on commendable character (akhlak terpuji)
through the implementation of the Think Pair Share (TPS)
cooperative learning model in Grade 5 at SD Negeri 023 Bangko
Sempurna. This research was motivated by the low student
evaluation results in Islamic Religious Education, particularly in the
topic of commendable character. The method used is Classroom
Action Research (CAR), conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted
of the stages of planning, action implementation, observation, and
reflection. Data collection techniques included observation,
evaluation tests, interviews, and documentation. The results showed
that the TPS model significantly improved students' understanding
and participation. The average student score increased from 70 in
the first cycle to 85 in the second cycle. In addition, active student
participation also rose from 35% to 85.7%. The TPS model proved to
have a positive impact on enhancing students' conceptual
understanding and critical thinking skills. This study recommends
the use of the TPS model as an effective teaching strategy in Islamic
Religious Education at the elementary school level.
