Abstract
This classroom action research aims to improve Grade VII students'
understanding of Zakat by implementing the Mind Mapping method at
SMP Negeri 7 Tanjung Medan. The research was motivated by the
observation that students struggled to grasp the key concepts and
principles of Zakat, often due to the complexity of the material and
traditional teaching methods. The study was conducted in two cycles, each
consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The Mind
Mapping method was used to visually organize the material, making it
easier for students to understand the relationships between Zakat’s key
concepts such as Nisab, Fiqh, and its social importance. The findings
indicated a significant improvement in students' understanding and
retention of Zakat material. Students became more engaged, with 85%
showing a better understanding of the concept and its practical
applications. The study concluded that the Mind Mapping method is an
effective tool for teaching Islamic concepts like Zakat, as it encourages
active learning and helps students to better organize and visualize
complex information
